This morning at approximately 1:00 a.m., Detective P.M. Edelen stopped a vehicle for defective equipment after it left a parking lot near the 4th and Juliana Street intersection.
The passenger in the vehicle, Joshua Paul Whitlock, was found to have an active warrant for petit larceny, alleging he stole a Samsung slide phone valued at $150.00 from an employee of a business on 7th Street on or about 6-12-12.
After removing Whitlock from the car, officers allegedly located a bag containing a computer and computer equipment valued at over $3,000.00. Officers also located a name in the bag of the potential victim. Whitlock was transported to PPD for processing on the petit larceny warrant.
While at headquarters, several officers began trying to contact the suspected victim without any immediate success. A short time later, the person they had been trying to contact came to the police department to report the recent theft of his computer and computer equipment from his vehicle, while it was parked in the 500 block of Juliana Street. The victim advised officers that he had checked his car at approximately 11:30 p.m. and everything was fine, but went outside approximately an hour later and discovered the theft.
Whitlock was then also charged with the felony Grand Larceny, processed and placed in the Wood County Holding Center to await arraignment. Warrants are expected to be filed on the driver of the vehicle in the coming days.
