This morning shortly after midnight, officers responded to a vehicle accident in the 3100 block of Avery Street. Investigation reveals that a 2005 Suzuki sedan lost control and crashed into the residence at 3107 Avery Street causing minor damage, with the driver apparently leaving the scene of the accident.
After speaking to a witness of the crash at the residence and eventually the owner of the car, officers were able to track down the alleged driver at 907 31st Street. Upon speaking with suspected driver Stephen Matthew Pate, officers allege that he had glassy bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, was unsteady on his feet and smelled strongly of alcohol. Pate began complaining of chest pain and appeared to have minor injuries to his face. He was transported to CCMC by officers for treatment.
Because of his medical condition, Pate was issued citations by Officer J.D. Pinkerton for first offense DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, and no operator’s license. He is required to appear in Wood County Magistrate Court within five (5) days on the charges or warrants will be issued for his arrest.
