Yesterday at approximately 6:15 p.m., officers responded to the 500 block of Division Street in reference to a vehicle entry. 911 dispatchers provided a description of a suspect who had allegedly just threw a large piece of concrete through the window of a 2001 Mercury Cougar, stole a purse from the car, and fled the area.
Officer C.A. Miller spotted two (2) people, one matching the suspect description, approximately one (1) block from the scene. Officer Miller and Officer B.E. Ward detained the two (2) persons for questioning.
Suspect Dustin Ray Kinney allegedly became belligerent and attempted to pull away from officers. Kinney was placed under arrest with a search of his person allegedly revealing a small amount of marijuana and items stolen during the reported vehicle entry.
The second suspect, a 15 year-old male, was detained in a police cruiser while the officers continued their investigation. The boy’s mother responded to the scene and was allegedly kicked by him while the two were speaking.
Both suspects were taken to headquarters for processing. Kinney was charged with destruction of property, petit larceny, obstructing, and possession of marijuana. The 15 year-old was ordered to be placed in a juvenile detention facility by a Circuit Court Judge on a domestic battery charge.
Kinney was arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court and released on a $500.00 bond. The juvenile was transported and placed in a detention facility without further incident.
