Re: Suspected Heroin Overdoses
Reference #: 13-PR-0013
Two (2) suspected heroin overdoses over the weekend are under investigation by the Parkersburg Police Department.
On Friday around 8:30 p.m., uniformed officers responded to 2320 Gihon Road (7-Eleven) in south Parkersburg in reference to an unresponsive person in the bathroom. Officers allegedly observed Charles Andrew Wade on the floor of the public restroom. Wade was reportedly speaking, but appeared to be delirious and mostly unable to move. Wade was transported to CCMC for medical treatment. Multiple witness statements and physical evidence found at the scene allegedly indicated Wade was the victim of a likely heroin overdose.
Officer R.T. Davis subsequently charged Wade with possession of a controlled substance. In lieu of arrest, he was issued a citation because of his ongoing medical treatment. Wade is required to appear in Wood County Magistrate Court following his recovery or a warrant will be issued for his arrest.

On Saturday around 9:15 p.m., officers responded to a north Parkersburg home in reference to assisting with a medical call. Upon arrival, emergency personnel were observed working on a 27-year-old female reportedly found unresponsive on the bathroom floor. She was transported to CCMC by ambulance where she was pronounced dead shortly after 10:00 p.m.
Following the completion of numerous interviews by detectives, preliminary indications are that the death is possibly the result of a heroin overdose. At least one other prescription drug has been listed by investigators as also being a possible contributing factor in the death.
Test results are pending with the investigation continuing. No charges have been filed at this point.
