Yesterday morning at approximately 9:00 a.m., officers and other emergency personnel responded to a home on the east end of Parkersburg in reference to a possible suicide.
Once at the residence, officers observed a 33 year-old male sitting in a chair in an incoherent condition, a 25 year-old female being incoherent and combative, a 21 year-old female sitting in a chair in an incoherent condition, and a 41 year-old male passed out in the bedroom. Once conscious again, the 41 year-old male became combative and had to be restrained by officers so medical personnel could attend to him. All four (4) persons were transported to CCMC by ambulance. All four (4) survived the incident, but their condition is unknown at this time.
This morning at approximately 7:00 a.m., officers responded to a business on Camden Avenue in south Parkersburg in reference to a suspicious person. Complainants advised that a 32 year-old male was running around the business, trying to get in the employees door, acting strange and refusing to leave. The man was eventually transported to CCMC by an officer for evaluation.
At approximately 8:30 a.m., officers were called back the CCMC because the man was being unruly in the Emergency Room. The man was eventually restrained so medical evaluation and treatment could continue.
Detectives from the Parkersburg Police Department and agents from the Parkersburg Narcotics Task Force are currently investigating yesterday’s incident as a likely bath salt overdose. This morning’s incident on Camden Avenue is also believed to be bath salt related, with the two (2) cases believed to be linked.
Investigators are now exploring the possibility that some contaminated bath salts have entered the local drug scene, and are attempting to find the origin of those drugs. No criminal charges have been filed in either incident at this time.
