Re: Weekend Incidents
Reference #: 12-PR-0131
It was a busy weekend for Parkersburg police officers. From 4:00 p.m. on Friday evening until 6:30 a.m. this morning, officers answered 318 calls for service. Midnight shift officers answered 139 calls, several of which involved large fights at local bars/clubs. Below are some notable incidents:
On 6-22-12 at approximately 11:30 p.m., Officer C.A. Miller observed a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am traveling at a high rate of speed in the 2900 block of Camden Avenue. Officer Miller caught up with the vehicle going across the East Street bridge and initiated a traffic stop near East Street and Mary Street. Officer Miller made contact with the driver, Creighton Jay Hoselton, who allegedly advised the officer that his driver’s license was suspended. Officer Miller conducted a computer check of Hoselton which confirmed he was suspended for DUI, and also advised that Hoselton had an outstanding warrant for domestic battery. Officer Miller attempted to remove Hoselton from the car with the suspect allegedly accelerating and speeding off. Several officers gave chase a short distance to an area of Camden Street where the vehicle began travel on a gravel road. Officers discontinued their pursuit when the dust and debris from the gravel road made it too dangerous to continue. A caller to the 911 Center later advised of a suspicious vehicle in the 2600 block of 10th Avenue. The vehicle was confirmed to be the one involved in the pursuit and was towed. The outstanding domestic battery warrant alleged that on or about 5-14-12, Hoselton struck his spouse multiple times in the face and head while the two were at their residence on Camden Avenue. Warrants for driving revoked for DUI, speeding, stop sign violations, and fleeing and eluding in a vehicle have been issued for Hoselton and he has yet to be located.

On 6-23-12 at approximately 11:30 p.m., officers responded to 1108 Juliana Street in reference to a domestic dispute. Officers went to apartment 6 and spoke to the occupants there. The investigation revealed that Kenneth Ray Sasser Jr. allegedly struck his brother in the nose with his fist causing bleeding. Sasser allegedly became belligerent with officers refusing to follow instructions. Sasser allegedly shoved Sergeant M.E. Board in the chest, and when detained, allegedly attempted to hit Sergeant Board with a closed fist. A struggle ensued with officers eventually taking Sasser to the ground, where he allegedly continued to be combative and refuse handcuffing. Handcuffs were eventually applied with Sasser taken to a cruiser for transport. While in the cruiser, Sasser allegedly began striking the window with his head and kicking the inside of the cruiser with his feet. Officers deployed pepper spray which was reportedly successful in stopping the attempted destruction of the police cruiser. Sasser was processed at police headquarters without further incident. He was charged with domestic battery, obstructing and battery of a police officer. He was arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court and released on a $4,000.00 bond. Officer B.J. Depue received minor injuries during the struggle. He was treated at CCMC and released.
