The Parkersburg Police completed an arson investigation that began January 1, 2020. Officers were dispatched to a structure fire at 2012 11th Avenue, Parkersburg.
The investigation revealed that Gary Lee Midcap, 24, walked onto the porch of the residence on 11th Avenue and ignited Christmas decorations on fire and fled the residence. The fire quickly spread burning the front door, window and porch roof. Smoke detectors were working inside the home which got the attention of the homeowner, Michael Showalter. Mr. Showalter was able to extinguish the fire prior to calling 911.
Midcap was arrested and charged with Arson in the First Degree and taken to Wood County Magistrate Court to be arraigned. At the arraignment, a bond was set for $50,000.00 by Magistrate Kuhl in which Midcap failed to post. Midcap was transferred to the North Central Regional Jail.
