Saturday morning around 3:20 a.m., numerous officers responded to the area of 7th and Lynn Streets in reference to an unknown problem.
An employee of Sugars (805 7th Street) advised officers she located two (2) 14-year-old male juveniles sleeping in a van in the parking lot. Officers began to search for the guardian of the boys, eventually finding him in Wild Suzi’s bar across the street.
Following an interview, Robert Ray Aguilar was arrested for two (2) felony counts of child neglect. A Criminal Complaint filed in Wood County Magistrate Court alleges that Aguilar left his 14-year-old son and his son’s 14-year-old friend, both in his care, in the adult entertainment parking lot across from two other bars by themselves for hours. An open container of beer was found in the car and the vehicle was not secured. The children could not contact Aguilar, who was found by officers to be extremely intoxicated and had no idea where the children were.
Aguilar, who was too intoxicated to arraign in Wood County Magistrate Court, was later arraigned by video from the North Central Regional Jail. He was given a $10,000.00 bond which he has yet to post. Aguilar also potentially faces other misdemeanor charges stemming from his arrest.
