PPD ASSISTING FOSTER CARE AGENCY FOR CHRISTMAS

Posted in: News

Re: PPD Assisting Foster Care Agency for Christmas
Reference #: 12-PR-0219

SEE BELOW FOR THE CHRISTMAS WISH LIST PROVIDED TO US BY SANTA!

For the second year, the Parkersburg Police Department is proud to partner with Try-Again Homes, in an effort to help approximately 55 Parkersburg area foster children have a great Christmas.

Try-Again Homes (TAH) is a non-profit foster care agency located in Parkersburg and Fairmont, WV. TAH provides foster/adoptive homes for children age’s birth to 18 years-old, and is funded in part under an agreement with the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.

Foster homes are needed due to a variety of issues, some of which include: neglect and abuse (physical, emotional, and sexual), alcohol and drug abuse, special medical circumstances, etc. Adoptive homes are needed when it is determined that children cannot return/remain with biological parents and parental rights have been terminated.

On average, there are 3,000 plus children in need of quality foster/adoptive homes throughout West Virginia. The struggles placed upon today’s children will impact the rest of their lives.

Beginning Monday, November 5th, new and unwrapped gifts for these wonderful and deserving children can be dropped off at the Parkersburg City Park police substation between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Donations will be accepted through Friday, December 21st. Police volunteers and officers will be on hand to help with collection and coordination.

As soon as Santa forwards us a list of requests from the children, we will post it on our website, www.parkersburgpolice.com. There is a substantial need at this time for winter clothes and shoes.

You may contact the City Park police substation at 304-424-0683, or Sergeant Greg Collins at the Parkersburg Police Department at 304-424-8444 with any questions.

“The officers and staff of the Parkersburg Police Department are involved in cases all too often, where children are removed from their homes and placed in foster care. It’s very difficult to see a child’s life turned upside down because of something that’s not their fault. It is our sincere desire to give these children a wonderful Christmas, and at the same time support the families who have opened their hearts and homes to these deserving kids. We hope that our community will support this effort as well.”
