Last night at approximately 11:45 p.m., officers responded to the 1100 block of Mary Street in reference to a possible vehicle tampering.
After speaking with witnesses regarding a suspicious individual inside a parked vehicle, and receiving a good description of the suspect, officers began a search of the area. Officer M.S. Brown reportedly heard some noise coming from the upstairs area of an abandoned apartment building in the 600 block of East Street, with several officers soon beginning a search of the building. Officers eventually located Jason Lee Caplinger, who matched the description of the suspect, allegedly hiding in the upstairs portion of the structure.
Officers then checked the Mazda Protégé in question, finding that a screwdriver had been beaten into the ignition switch.
Caplinger was charged with felony attempted grand larceny and taken to headquarters for processing. He was arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court today and released on a $5,000.00 bond.
