The Parkersburg Police are actively investigating a shooting that occurred in the area of 1300 block of Lynn Street.
Officers were dispatched to 1337 Lynn Street on 4/5/18 at approximately 2124 hours to a complaint of a male subject that had been shot. Upon arrival officers discovered that the shooting took place on the front porch of 1333, between two male subjects. Officers were told that both the victim and the suspect had fled the area prior to their arrival. The suspect fled the area in a Ford Mustang.
Officers located the victim at the corner of Lynn Street and Charles Street. Officers identified the shooting victim as Jerome Blackwell, of Parkersburg, and observed a gunshot wound to his left leg. An ambulance responded to this location and transported Blackwell to CCMC. Further investigation revealed that the single gunshot wound to the victim traveled through his left leg and into his right leg, where it remains. The gunshot wound to the victim is considered non-life threatening.
Detectives were called to the scene to collect evidence and interview potential witnesses to further the investigation. Officers and Detectives were able to identify the suspect in this case and locate the vehicle the suspect fled in. The vehicle was taken into police custody to be searched for additional evidence.
The motive for the shooting is domestic related. The victim and the suspect have had arguments in recent weeks about a female subject.
The investigation continues as Detectives are actively obtaining additional evidence to secure an arrest warrant for the suspect.
